Medical Assistant (M.A.)

Medical Assistant (ONET 51.0801.00)-40 weeks/900 clock hours  and 160 hr. clinical externship

A Medical Assistant is multiskilled, multitasking health professional educated not only in clinical skills allowing them to provide direct patient care but also in administrative medical clerical office procedures.

Students will learn to provide quality patient care and office procedures through class lectures, hands-on skills lab practice, and a 160-hr. clinical externship. This training program prepares the student to sit for and obtain a National Healthcare Association’s Certification as a CCMA (Certified Clinical Medical Assistant) upon completion of the program.

Phlebotomy Technician

Phlebotomy Technician(ONET 31.9097.00)-10 weeks/300 clock hours, 160-hour externship

This training program prepares students to collect blood specimens for testing and analysis in clinical labs. During this ten-week program, students will learn to skillfully draw blood as well as the soft skills needed to become employed as a top-notch Phlebotomist.

Included in the 300 clock hours, is a 160-hour externship experience with one of our healthcare partners. This training program will prepare students to sit for the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP) Phlebotomy Technician (PBT) Certification This training program prepares students to collect blood specimens for testing and analysis in clinical labs. During this ten-week program, students will learn to skillfully draw blood as well as the soft skills needed to become employed as a top-notch Phlebotomist. Included in the 300 clock hours, is a 160-hour externship experience with one of our healthcare partners. Sterile Processing Technician

Sterile Processing Technician (ONET 31.9093.00)-20 weeks/700 clock hour and 400 hr. clinical experience)

Sterile Processing Technicians are an integral part of a healthcare facility. As part of a hospital Sterile Processing Team, you will be responsible for decontaminating, inspecting, assembling, disassembling, packaging, and sterilizing surgical instruments. Included in the 700 clock hours is a 400-hour externship experience with one of our healthcare partners. This training program will prepare students to sit for the Healthcare Sterile Processing Associations’ (HSPA) Certified Registered Central Service Technician (CRCST) upon program completion.

Courses taught during the didactic portion of the training are:

Non-Vocational Program

Emotional & Cultural Competencies in Healthcare

1 week, 40 hour (Focus on crucial skills and self-care for enhanced professionalism and immunity against burnout.)

This course is intended to provide a solid foundation for individuals pursuing employment in the healthcare fields to gain the necessary benefits of emotional intelligence, character strengths and mindfulness including decreased stress, anxiety, depression, improved mood, self-efficacy, resiliency, and empathy. (Lara G. Hilton, 2019). Additionally, increased work engagement, personal resources, and strengths use (Bakker & van Wingerden, 2020). (Authors, various), along with psychological empowerment, wellbeing, and quality of care for patients. (Leila Karimi, 2021).

Upon successful completion of this course, the student will be able to excel in self-awareness, self-regulation, motivation, empathy and social skills with empowered resilience, confidence, and ability to thrive long­ term in a healthcare career, both professionally and personally.
